Scents of the Mediterranean

Olive oil, a precious gift of nature today known worldwide as a symbol of Mediterranean. Olive oil comes from olives, the fruit of the olive tree which is traditional crop of the Mediterranean.

Due to its distinctive aroma and taste, as well as its undeniable nutritional superiority, extra virgin olive oil is one of the most famous and valued oils. It is rich in antioxidants and protects from diseases especially cancer. Olive oil is used as a seasoning for cooked vegetables, salads, in the preparation of fish, and is used in cooking in place of other fats. Besides its health benefits it is used in cosmetics thanks to its various benefits for hair and skin. Rightfully bears the name of yellowish green liquid gold.

One of the synonyms for summer and the Mediterranean diet is certainly the fig, a fruit that has not yet received the importance it deserves given its nutritional and medical values.
It is a better source of fiber than most fruits.
It's a smaller tree that grows along our coast. Due to its specific taste and rich nutritional value, it can be consumed fresh and dried, but also processed in the form of jams, compotes and fermented beverages, making it available all year-round. The fig is rich in calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. They are also used to make traditional specialties. In a wide variety of Mediterranean sorts, along with olives and grapevine, figs have a special place, especially since they are one of the first plants that have been cultivated for human consumption. It is an indispensable part of traditional menus and can be combined with savory and sweet dishes.

The grapevine takes a significant place in the agriculture of Dalmatia, as a centuries-old breadwinner for the people of this area. It is a climbing plant which is well-known because of its fruit yields called grapes that can be used fresh, dried and processed into fruit juices or alcohol. The most famous product of the fruit is wine. Due to the relief, climate and soil and some other factors, it is possible to grow more high-quality grapevine types in Croatia, from which premium wines can be produced.
Grapes have been known for a long time as the food of the gods. It is attractive in appearance, tastes irresistible, it is very nutritious and extremely healthy.
It contains a multitude of substances necessary for maintaining the health and proper functioning of the body.

This plant is called the Mediterranean queen, and it has earned this title with numerous medical benefits. Lavender is a flowering plant in the mint family that’s easily identified by its sweet floral scent. It grows on the mountain regions of the Mediterranean and loves hot sun and dry soil. Lavender has many varieties with different colors, sizes and flower forms. We know it as a purple flower plant with strong, refreshing aroma. It is most commonly used in aromatherapy as an essential oil.
Lavender essential oil is a great remedy for various types of pain.
It has a soothing scent and helps cure migraines, headaches, anxiety, depression and stress.
It is used in the culinary as spice, in medical and cosmetic industries.
In Dalmatia is very popular to put linen bags filled with dried lavender in the closet which protect clothes against moths and give a wonderful scent.

Rosemary is a medical and spicy herb. It grows in the form of bush naturally on sunny and rocky grounds. Rosemary is a member of the mint family like lavender and it blossoms with tiny flowers of a light-blue color.
It is most commonly used as a culinary condiment in Mediterranean dishes or as an essential oil. It is used also to make bodily perfumes, and it's known for its potential health benefits for physical and mental health. It deserves special attention not only for its aromatic scent and its intense strong taste, but also for antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. Rosemary extracts commonly are found as cosmetic ingredients. It is considered by many to be the healthiest Mediterranean spice. Rosemary honey is considered one of the highest quality honey.
